Sorry Jim Joyce

This goes out to MLB umpire Jim Joyce, who has been raked over the coals, scourged and stoned for his call at first base on Wednesday night that ended Armando Galarraga's perfect game try with two outs in the ninth. I believe the masses are now trying to tar and feather him.

I'm sorry, Jim, for any ill thought I had toward you after that call. I'm sorry for the persecution you are going through right now. You don't deserve this treatment, not even close.

Here's Joshua Walker's take at HardballTimes.com. I'm going a little more personal here.

Mr. Joyce, you have a thankless job. As I tweeted earlier, I once only knew umpires by their unique strike/strikeout calls behind the plate. These days, I only know of umpires after their missed calls in the field (or if certain writers blast them for bad home-plate umpiring). That is truly regrettable.

You are human, Mr. Joyce, and will make mistakes. We all do. I forgive you, and it sounds like some of the Tigers have forgiven you as well. Everyone should, because we all are not perfect. Only one Man has been perfect walking this earth, and He was put to death by humans for us. I hope that Mr. Joyce has that peace, as that may be the only thing that will help him weather this storm that is about him now.

In fact, I need that same peace now. Please depart more of that to me today.
